WordPress
What is WordPress and Why Do I Love it?
WordPress is web software you can use to create a website or a blog. It’s free to download and use. It adds the capability of a Content Management System to your site and with a little know-how, it’s possible to transform a site into almost anything you can imagine.
So, what does this mean for you?
For starters, a WordPress site will save you a lot of money, both in development and ongoing maintenance. The platform allows you to take control over your own site (to add, edit and remove content), incorporate advanced functionality (e-commerce, mapping, user submitted content, etc.) and get better search results.
I discovered WordPress in 2009 and am totally smitten by it. You will be too.
Easy-to-Use and Lots of Functionality
WordPress is continually improving its Content Management System, giving you an intuitive and user-friendly back-end tool. They continue to add features like threaded comments, galleries, and more. Plugins allow you to add all kinds of interactive functionality, like photo galleries, shopping carts, forums, maps, and more.
Easily Add a Blog To Your Site
WordPress really came to fame for blogging and many still consider it to be a blog platform. With categories, tags, threaded commenting, great moderation controls, anti spam solutions and plugin infrastructure, it’s a fantastic blog solution.
Beautiful Design within Reach
Everyone wants a site that has just the right look and feel. For years, I developed totally custom sites for that purpose. But with WordPress, there’s a whole world of design templates, or “themes,” that are free or low-cost. Some of my best sites started with an inexpensive theme. With customization, they turned into beautiful, one-of-a-kind sites that looked like they’d been designed from scratch. I can save you so much time and money by working with these pre-existing themes.
Google Loves WordPress
The layout and infrastructure of a WordPress site makes it really attractive to Google. Why should you care about that? The more attractive your site is to Google, the better your position in search results. By using WordPress as your platform, you get built-in search engine optimization!
Totally Accessible
WordPress web pages render in HTML and CSS allowing them to show up on iPhones, BlackBerrys, Androids, iPads, etc. This is an important feature of any website today – to be accessible from anywhere, especially handheld devices.
Your Site Will Grow With You
Long gone are the days when a static “brochure” site was enough. Today you need a site that will change with you – whether that means frequent blogging, updated images of your work or the addition of new features. It’s so easy to make these changes on your own. No more webmaster and long delays. It’s all right at your fingertips!
